Life Dance
We are dancing each day
To the music of life,
Kicking in the womb
Then swimming into the world
Head first, feet moving in dance.
We are dancing each day
To the music of life,
Dancing barefoot at dawn,
Slowly, deliberately,
Making our own rhythm]
With footsteps sure and swift.
We are dancing each day
To the music of life,
As earth’s colors ebb and flow.
We swirl love in ecstasy,
Stomp anger until
Our feet grow tired,
Tap impatience
In a raw, vermilion dawn
Then glide peacefully into
A quiet indigo evening.
We are dancing each day
To the music of life,
The swell of brass clashing
With the soft strum of strings,
The mellow hum of woodwinds
Breathing peace,
The heartbeat of percussion
Pulsing excitement
Anticipation
Dread.
We are dancing each day
To the music of life
Beneath an azure sky filled with doves,
Through a rainbow swelling above,
Throbbing its harp sounds of hope
As we dance on and on
Until we cease,
Ears losing the sound of strings,
Heart halting the percussion,
Woodwinds stopping their breath.
We barely have time
To say our goodbyes,
Tears filling our eyes,
Before the curtain closes
On the wonderful dance of life.
